Title: The Eagle and the Rose
Series:
Tiny Birds
Medium:
Gouache on Watercolor Paper

Dimensions: 10 x 8 inch painting
Dimensions including mat: 115 x 14 inches

An African eagle, the size of a pixie, goes in for a landing on a green-colored rose. The mottled yellowy-green colors make me thing the eagle is swooping into the heart of the world.

I photographed the eagle in Kenya. It's an African fish eagle. Their wingspan averages about 6.6 feet (2 meters) in males and about 7.9 feet (2.6 meters) in females. These are grand, enormous birds in real life!

I photographed the rose on a walk and have no idea the species. It was already leaning toward green, and I enhanced that in the painting.

Surrealism in changing the scale of flower to bird is very obvious here. I like to think of the birds in my Tiny Birds series as being pixie-sized, but you are welcome to see the flowers as gargantuan instead.

Please keep fine art and prints out of direct sunlight and UV light.

LUNAR CODEX

My Artwork on the Moon

Luna, my triple-rhino painting honoring Earth's moon, is going to reside in the Southern Polar Region of that very same moon. My art is not only international, but extra-terrestrial.

Luna is part of The Polaris Collection, payload GM1, going to the moon with the Astrobotic Griffin Mission 1. Enormous thanks to Samuel Peralta and NASA for making this possible.

Inspiration

I love the natural world! Through my artwork, I seek to honor it and encourage others to love, protect, and conserve it too.

A percentage of the proceeds from the sale of my artwork is donated to the International Rhino Foundation.

Image Reference

I work primarily from my own photographs of animals, wildlife, and nature. While I paint and create artowrk in my indoor art studio, I gather most of my inspiration outside. I combine any number of photographs along with and my (over-active?) imagination to create my artwork.

"Absolutely Beautiful! I never really looked at rhinos as a beautiful animal...But when you paint them, you make them look so majestic and beautiful but still big and muscular. And let me say maybe peaceful. No one is there to bother them. It's like I see them truly free and happy!!"

Hey Sarah, we hung the painting in our dining room. We had other plans for it, but decided we wanted to be able to look at it often. So, here I sit, having a cup of coffee while enjoying it. Cheers!
