Title: Safe at Sea
Series: The Illustrated Rhinoceros Sutra
A rhinoceros stands in the center of this art piece, using the sea as safety. Subtle color and tone shifts create a sense of calm. Waves gently lap against and around the rhino. The sun is low in the sky, backlighting the rhino so that a warm glow caresses it on the right.
The sky is a buttery yellow. The ocean reflects that yellow and hints at the coming sunset (or just past sunrise, if you prefer) by showing peach, pink, and lavender colors. The shadowed areas of the water range from pale blues to deep teal. The rhino's horn is golden.
This is not a natural habitat for a rhino, so this counts as light Surrealism or just a bit of fantasy. It's a metaphor with a personal touch. The ocean makes me feel safe, at least while I'm on the shore. It brings me solace and peace. Here, then, the rhino is peaceful and safe in its waves.
The watermark will not be printed on your finished print. It is there for copyright purposes on the internet.

Wild at Art
Wildlife art is a language of love, hope, and determination.
I painted my first rhino in 1999. There is no stopping me.
