Phobos and Deimos is part of my Rhino Moons series. It's a subset of paintings that belong to my larger series, Wandering Stars, that focuses on portraying cosmic bodies and the entities they are named after in the guise of wildlife.

Phobos and Deimos are moons of Mars. Phobos is the god of panic and Deimos is the god of terror or fear. Instead of separating the sons of Mars into their own paintings, I kept them together on each painting and changed the focused from one to the other. This one focuses on Phobos and shows a visual representation of the feeling of panic instilled by that god in rhino-form.

This painting equates rhinos to specific mythological figures. These rhinos are brothers who run with Mars in battle. Phobos brings panic and the desire to flee, and Deimos, in the back, brings dread. They are part of a powerhouse of protection.
