Starry Nights, Wildlife Art with a Twist Gets a Solo Show!
Wait. What? I get a solo show! How did this happen?
Earlier this year, I contacted Borrego Art Institute to find out how to enter one of their group shows. The gallerist asked to see my work to better understand which shows would best fit their planned exhibitions.
Then they invited to me do a solo show!!
I'm still floored by this. I'm over the moon. I have a ton of new work to show at this opening. I could not be happier!
October 5-November 3, 2024: STARRY NIGHTS: Wildlife Art with a Twist: Paintings by Sarah Soward that combine the astronomy and mythology of the cosmos into wildlife paintings. In the North Gallery.
Opening reception October 5, 2024, 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
- They're using my “Perseus Roadrunner” painting for their promos for me. That painting happened because
- Roadrunners are cool
- Perseus was a big ol' meanie for doing Medusa wrong
- The constellation named for Perseus looks so very much like a roadrunner (see point #1)
- It gave me an excuse to over-size the Perseus Molecular Cloud so that it looks like the roadrunner is creating it from running (see point #1)
Back to the official text from Borrego Art Institute:
Starry Nights features paintings by Sarah Soward that combine the astronomy and mythology of the cosmos into wildlife paintings. She has multiple on-going series in this theme. Enjoy everything from her (re)interpretations of constellations to myth-based Rhino Moon and elephantastic Wandering Stars paintings.
Soward (pronounced SOH-wurd) is a professional artist born in Germany. She holds a BFA from California College of the Arts (CCA). She primarily works in oil and acrylic painting, but is also adept with gouache, watercolor, laser engraving, and digital art. She believes that the medium should suit the message, so she maintains a broad skillset.
Highlights of her career include:
- Luna, will go to the Moon as part of the curated Lunar Codex in late 2024
- Acquisition of a painting by the Kentucky Derby Museum at Churchill Downs
- Multi-year Finalist in the Wildlife Artist of the Year exhibition at the Mall Gallery in London
- Two of her rhino paintings traveled with the Artist4Rhinoexhibition, one exhibited at the Museo Civico de Storia Naturale di Genova, Italy
- Sky Creature featured in the Londonist and BBC Wildlife Magazine

Opening Reception and my 1st Pre-Launch Party
October 5, 2024
5pm - 7pm
I'm counting this as a Pre-Launch Party for Luna going to the Moon as part of the curated digitized art gallery, known as the Lunar Codex. The launch date is fluid because space exploration is complex and things get rescheduled often. Launch in now estimated for early 2025. My digitized work is going to the Lunar South Pole! There will be rhinos on the moon in the form of a digitized oil painting of rhinos as the Moon/Goddess Luna.
This is the closest to space travel that I will ever get, and I'm thrilled. This is beyond my wildest realistic hope for my art career or life. It's a dream. It's an absolute dream.
More info on the Lunar Codex is here.
