She Walks in Beauty is a mixed media painting with a sense of humor. The okapi is turned to show its stripes and looking back at the viewer, which only draws even more attention to its stripes (and swagger). The okapi stands in front of a golden moon both to finish the line of the poem ("...like the night.") and to add an obvious pun.
The okapi is the only relative of the giraffe in the animal kingdom and are know for their gorgeous umber hues and sassy pants.
Mixed media on paper.
This painting is part of the Contralateral Eye project Sarah Soward and Ashli Kingfisher collaborated on for an exhibition at Buuni in New York.
