I made myself a small army of tiny clay rhino sculptures. I experimented with different painting options and settled on flat “The World’s Blackest Black” called Black 3.0 from Culture Hustle. Under normal lighting conditions, the extreme mat nature of the paint plays tricks on the eye and makes it difficult to discern shape because there are too few highlights and shadows.
Edition: No. 01 in the Black Hole Rhinos sculpture series
They are each mounted on a bamboo stand, approximately 3.5 to 4 inches in diameter. Each piece, including the stand is under 3.5 inches.
Please note: Due to the extreme mat nature of the paint, only handle the sculpture by the base. Each time the paint is touched, it becomes less mat and the illusion decreases.
The sculptures are already boxed and firmly secured with Frog tape and packaging construction to reduce or prevent risk of damage during shipping.
The video below shows the sculpture under average lighting conditions and also under harsh or more extreme lighting conditions in an effort to force shadows to form so you can better see the shape of the sculpture.
