Black Hole Rhinos came about in 2 separate phases.
Phase 1 were adorable little rhino sculptures affixed to bamboo or green-felt-covered bases. The rhinos were painted with Black 3.0 (Stuart Semple's Blackest Black). Those were commentary on the loss of the rhinoceros in the wild, illustrating the rhino-shaped void caused by potentially losing this incredible mega-herbivore.
Phase 2 just happened in 2024. These were bartered and gifted to the wonderful rhino-lovers of Neotropolis. Yes. We. Are. Every. Where.
This second phase brought my cute little rhinos into a realm that I often explore and am digging into more deeply now: The Cosmos!
These rhinoceros sculptures were still painted with Black 3.0 (Stuart Semple's Blackest Black). This time, I painted their bases black, like space, and used metallic paint to add silver and gold dots of different sizes to make stars around the rhinos. Black Hole Rhinos in spaaaaaace!
In the low and futuristic lights of Neotropolis at night, the rhinos looked especially black-hole-like. I was excited to find people who loved rhinos in a futuristic wonderland event in the desert.
All Black Hole Rhino, in both phases, have found new homes. Images of the sculptures are below. I create rhino artwork of all sorts all year long, though. My newest endeavor for rhino-kind is A Rhino in Every Home.
